New photographic award for Richard Wylie

Richard Wylie's photo "Mother's Love" has been selected as a winner in the Oceanside Museum of Art's LIQUID CAPTURE: Masters of Underwater Photography competition. In the words of the Museum organisers:


"Liquid Capture: Masters of Underwater Photography is a juried exhibition presenting the best underwater photographic art from around the world. Organized by renowned photographer Lee Peterson, this exhibition will feature images reflecting five specific categories: Ocean Environment Underwater, Macro, Diver, Ocean Environment Above Water and Marine Mammals. Selected artists will have the opportunity to display their photographs in a world-class museum setting and will have their artwork published in the exhibition catalogue."


The winning image "Mother's LOve" (below) will be on display along with the rest of the exhibit from April 28 - June 17, 2012 at the Oceanside Museum of Art in The Groves Auditorium - tickets will be on sale at the Museum.

An article by Richard Wylie was published in the prestigious Australian Geographic today. Marine Biologist Richard Wylie's feature article discusses some of the issues facing stingrays in Australia and how he hopes to change people's perception about these gentle and inquisitive animals.

 

Related to sharks stingrays seem to have recently encountered the same image problems associated with their more well known cousins. Richard's article is an attempt to change that stereotype and can be read here:
